Two Awesome Lists I Found on Yelp

Places I can Drink and Socialize with my Pup

See All Lists
Everyone who knows me knows I rarely leave the house without my Pup in tow. Here is list of places you can eat and drink with your 4 legged kids:

The renovation of this historic plantation home is amazing! I have been here twice since they reopened under new management and it is better than ever. Their outdoor seating on the deck has a Swiss Family Robinson meets upscale Tiki Lounge ambiance and I love it! The fact that I can bring along my Pup while I socialize during Happy Hour gets them a full 5 stars!

On my most recent visit during HH we had the Sesame Seared Ahi and Cheese Plate (several cheeses and nuts) at 1/2 off during Happy Hour and more than enough for a lite meal for 2 - we also had 2 glasses of wine (also 1/2 off) each - all for 30.00 before tip!

I was having so much fun I forgot that my Pup was sleeping under the table - but our waitress continued to check in to see if she needed "water'..... Bonus points for that alone in my opinion!

I stopped by here today for Monica O.'s ROTD Celebration and had a delightful visit with some fellow yelpers while enjoying the nice ambiance that the back patio has to offer.

After arriving, I remembered I had eaten here before and remembered the yummy chicken Pho I had here. How did I forget about this place? Well it is off my beaten path...

I was not hungry today after a big breakfast before my morning hike; but, I wanted to order some food so I went with a Shrimp Spring Roll. My Spring Roll at 1.73 with tax was the perfect light snack. My Triumph Vietnamese blend coffee was also very good; but, by no means 4 stars.

I took the first sip of Peter P.'s Mango Strawberrie Smoothie/ Iccee and it tasted so amazingly sweet I knew it would overload my blood sugar. But, those first few sips were heavenly... I highly recommend it to anyone whose blood sugar can handle an over dose of sugar natural or not...

I also tasted Christine A.'s chicken after she asked if I was drinking my water and took my water. After one spicy bite of her chicken I had to ask for my water back!

A few Yelpers drank some beers but the real party was going on underneath the table... My Pup Mia and Peter P.'s Pup Scrubbie were making out under the table with some Lesbian full on open mouth tongue kissing...

Thank You Triumph for allowing my Pup to have fun with me!

I will be back for sure...

After doing some shopping at The Lofty Dog I was window shopping on 2nd St when I ran into friends who were headed to The Taverna for brunch.

I was very hungry after our morning walk around the lake and I must have had the saddest puppy dog eyes when I looked down at my Pup; because, my friend immediately said "Lets see if they allow dogs on the patio?"

My friend went in and asked if dogs were allowed on the patio? "Yes!"

Thank You, Taverna for allowing my 4 legged friend; so, that I could enjoy a tasty meal on your patio while catching up with friends I had not seen in years!

I ordered 2 fried eggs with smoked ham and breakfast potatoes and 2 mimosas for 10.00 before tip! I love to cook breakfast at home on the weekends and rarely ever order it out because I always grumble because I could have made it better at half the price. No complaints here everything was cooked and seasoned exactly the way I like it. I ordered the ham mostly for my Pup; but, it was so good I was stingy with sharing it. And, the $1 Mimosas are way cheaper than I could make at home!

So, yes I will be back for excellent friendly service, tasty food and fun people watching on a 2nd st patio that allows my 4-legged best friend!

I had a delightful lunch here with Peter P. who also offered to pay for my lunch which made it an even a sweeter experience.

We were looking for a place to eat at with our Pups while my car got detailed across the street at the Finish Line and this place happened to be right across the street with outdoor seating!

I went in and placed my order and explained that my friend who was entertaining our pups outside was paying...

"No Problem" even though a large group came in between me and my friend placing his order....

I ordered a 1/2 Turkey sandwich and a cup of vegetable soup with a choice of multi grain bread as my side (choices are apple, chips or bread). The perfect amount of food for lunch - no food coma effects afterward....

However, I was envious of Peter's choice: salad with chicken and multi grain bread which he used to make a sandwich for himself and shared the rest of the meat between our pups!  There was a HUGE amount of chicken on that salad - as in enough for a grown man and 3 big dogs!

I stopped in here yesterday after browsing at The Great Outdoors and "Yay! I am a fan". I can't wait to explore more of their sandwiches: they all sound so good! and the smoothies too! and the sweet Cuban coffee drinks!

I wished I had a friend with me so I could share a couple of the items I wanted to try... I decided on the Veggie sandwich because I was wanting something healthy and the Hummus Avocado combo sounded fantastic! My sandwich was layered with a hummus spread, avocado, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onions and cucumbers. Yummy!

Minus a star for adding chips and salsa to my sandwich (which I did not eat) and jacking up the price of my sandwich....

Full 5 stars for a New Orleans type cafe ambiance in South Austin that allows my butt sniffer!

Friend: " I am craving Puffy Tacos, can you meet me at El Chilito after work?"
Me: " I have Mia (my Pup) with me are they dog friendly?"
Friend: "They have a patio.... I will call..."
Friend: "Yes they allow dogs on their patio."
Me: " I can be there by 5:30ish see you there"

First time experience here and I am wanting to give them 5 stars for the spectacular weather on the patio...

Since, they can not control the weather I give them 4 stars for allowing my butt sniffer and serving up some amazing cheap Tex Mex.

FYI - breakfast is served all day.. I had an Egg and Cheese Taco with a side of beans and potatoes and a Watermelon Agua Fresca for less than $5.00!?!?

Yes,  I will be back to explore more of the menu..

 Update - 7/19/2008

I stopped by today to try the Green Tea Frozen Yogurt and "Woohoo!" is the only word I can think of to articulate the joy going on in my mouth. Without getting graphic I would like to say my taste buds reacted like a teenage boy his first time; but, I was able to control myself and slowly lick each spoon full trying to identify what taste buds were being tickled and just how to explain my pleasure. Jacob (the owner) asked me what I thought about it and all I could say was something like "it is good" because I was in the moment with my yogurt.  Now, reflecting on the experience I would describe it as cold and creamy (not at all icy like some frozen dairy treats) and the flavor is tart and tangy like fresh yogurt but sweeter with hints of earthy herbal notes from the Green Tea concentrate.

I wish I had taken notes so I could provide all the details.  But, the Green Tea Frozen Yogurt  and the Plain Tart Flavor are fat free and very healthy.   The yogurt they use retains all the healthy probiotics that are good for healthy digestion and the Green Tea concentrate (they purchase from a local Asian market) adds additional healthy antioxidants!

If you never thought dessert and healthy would go together you need to experience Mambo Berry.

And, today I had the pleasure of meeting Jacob's wife Erin and their adorable baby boy.  If there was ever a local establishment to support for who they are and what they are providing this is it.

I logged onto their website and shed a happy tear upon reading their "about" page - "These two young lovebirds are active, health-conscious locals who wanted to find something they shared a passion for that would fit right into the Austin scene."

I highly recommend this place for a healthy refreshing sweet treat and supporting a local family!!!

My happy experience at The Grove has a story behind it so bare with me.

Turn on Katy Perry "I kissed a Girl" and put it on replay while I tell my story....

I met a cute girl at the Bull Creek off leash dog park and we started talking about places we could drink with our dogs and one thing lead to another and we had a date at The Grove...

I am a South Austin Gal and rarely venture into Westlake but this place and my cute new friend had me putting away my judgements and values for the night..

"It felt so wrong it felt so right"...

We shared the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna and Panko crusted Crab Cakes pared with the perfect red wine.

Sorry I was too distracted to remember the wine... The Waitress recommended it and it was a perfect pairing...

We enjoyed some amazing wine and yummy appetizers on the patio that allowed our butt sniffers.

Which, led to much fun afterward....

Yay! I"m a fan of this place.....

This "hole in the wall" dive serves up some amazing all organic food and coffee. When I lived in Lakeway I ate here at least once a week.

On a recent visit I found out they are moving down the street and will be tripling their size and adding dinner service and live music in September and expanding their already awesome menu!

Why the full 5 stars for a dive? Well let me tell you:
1. Gluten Free - tortillas, breads, bagels and pizza
2. Organic - coffee, breads and vegetables
3. Nitrate, Hormone and Perservative free lunch meat
4. Hormone free Grain fed Free Range Eggs
5. Butt sniffer friendly

In their current location they serve Breakfast and Lunch and a large selection of Coffee and Tea Specialty drinks with choice of Organic Whole Milk, Fat Free Milk, Soy or Rice Milk.

For lunch I highly reccomend the HUGE Spinach, Onion, Artichoke Hummus Wrap that is big enough to split with a friend or, the Gyro Wrap with organic greens, lamb and hummus wrapped in a Greek Flat Bread!!!!

This trailer is my new favorite food out of a trailer!

They offer several vegetable options.  I am not a Vegetarian but the veggie options sounded great.  I went with the 2 Mmmpanadas and a drink  for 7.50.

I ordered the Asparagus Prosciutto with Blue cheese and the Spinach and Mushroom w/ Pine Nuts and Goat Cheese mmmpanadas with an orange juice as drink choice.  Granted they are not vegetarian but veggie based....

All I have to say is YUMMY...

And the owner told me they will be serving the savory empanadas at the Nomad Bar...

They are down town T-Th 7:30 AM - 1:30PM and TH- Sat 10PM -3AM.

I like this place a lot and I want to give it 5 stars for allowing my Butt Sniffer (My Pup for those who do not speak Dog Vibe) to hang out with me on the patio.  I love places I can drink and dine with my Pup and this place does not let me down.  It just does not hold up to 5 stars if I was not in the company of my best four legged friend.  So, 4 stars for Joe's Bar and Grill.

Joe's is a nice neighborhood Bar and Grill nestled in between Downtown Lofts - nice patio and inside there are flat screen TVs, pool tables, shuffle boards and bocce ball for entertainment.

In addition to Beer and Wine they have a nice selection of Tequila and some darn good bar food.  I need Food with my Alcohol so this is important in my rating a bar.  I highly recommend the Peel and Eat Shrimp, Mushrooms stuffed with shrimp, and Fried Egg Sandwich with Bacon, Lettuce and Tomatoes served with french fries tossed with garlic, salt and pepper.

Nice bar menu - I will be back furr sure (with my furry friend in tow)....

I must first admit I am a Bar-B-Q whore - I have had many true loves; but, I can never stay faithful to just one - just in case there is juicier beef somewhere else...

Today I got a call from a fellow BBQ lover who wanted to know if I was up for a drive to Dripping Springs to try out Riley's.

Me: "I am starving and BBQ sounds great!  You driving and are they dog friendly?"

Friend: "I'll drive and they have a patio or we can eat in the back of my pickup."

Me: "Come get me before I ruin my appetite"

1.5 hours latter I was devouring my beef brisket sandwich topped with the most amazing pickled onions, some pickles and yummy sauce with a side of fried okra and sweet tea for only 4.99!!!  My friends Pork Loin was also yummy!!

Well worth the drive.  I will be back 4 sure and yes the patio is dog friendly or at least they allowed my butt sniffer....

If you happen to be stalking me - you might want to look for me here sitting on the patio sipping a margarita while hanging out with my 4 legged Kiddo and her friends and their parents.  Because, I am here a lot...

5 stars for a Tex Mex place that allows me to drink a tasty Margarita with my butt sniffer in tow!

The food and service is a good 4 stars.  The Bean and Guacamole Tostadas and Mahi Mahi Tacos are a somewhat healthy option for Tex-Mex.  The Mahi Mahi Tacos are pan seared (not batter fried) served with roasted veggies and mango salsa in fresh made corn tortillas - none of that ranch dressing/ mayo slaw type stuff that some places add to fish tacos....

If you are looking for a rooftop bar that has nice views and low prices I highly recommend One-2-One Bar.

I so miss living within bike riding distance of this place; as, I have many fond memories here.

Great place for hanging out with friends outside on the patio (yes they are butt sniffer (dog) friendly) over drinks or inside playing old school arcade, pool or darts.

And yeah they have some good food. I can highly recommend the fried stuff here: okra, pickles and fried green tomatoes. Don't forget to try these 3 things.   And Yeah Haw they let adults order off the kids menu 3.50 Grilled Cheese and Fries!  And Woo Hoo they hey have lots of veggie options..

Kimberly K. suggested this place for coffee this morning and what an excellent choice it was!  This place is freaking AWESOME!

They have a small patio with 5/6 tables surrounding a water fountain that is apparently dog friendly since one of the servers came out and pet my Pup instead of kicking us out.  Bonus point for allowing my Pupper!

But, the Segafredo espresso would get a full five stars regardless of the location or service.  It is possibly the best espresso I have ever had and definitely the best I have had in Austin.

And don't even get me started on the inside - I even told Kimberly I wanted to live here....

And since Kimberly K. suggested this place and ordered and brought out my heavenly Espresso con Panna she also gets a full 5 stars!  KK, thank you for turning me onto this place you rock :D

I have been eating delicious BBQ here for almost 20 years.  When I lived down the street I got Breakfast Tacos and Brisket here often.   This past Sunday I stopped by for a Brisket Sandwich and it was just as good as I remembered!

They are located at the NW corner of 620/2222 in the same parking lot as Texaco and a Liquor store that cashes checks (they only take cash so this might be important info).

There is no indoor seating.  You place your order at the outdoor counter and wait for and eat your food at the picnic tables or get it to go.

They get an extra star  for allowing my butt sniffer.  Anyone who trusts a dog not to lunge at the smell of roasting meat gets an extra star from me.   But then my Pup is well behaved and lays under the table in hopes of dropped food....

I visited this place when it first opened and it was indeed tiny.  But, it has grown quite a bit in the past year.  It is now a very large outdoor patio with covered seating complete with stage for live music a second bar and some nice hanging flower baskets to add to the ambiance.

I have met friends here several times in the past couple months for their Whiskey Wednesday for a Jameson or 2 served neat for 3.50 per glass.  I could easily get drunk here for less than 20.00.  But, since I always have the Pup in tow when I stop in to drink my Whiskey I always limit myself to 2 drinks so I can safely drive us home. I love my Butt Sniffer Partner in Crime but she will never be a designated driver; so, she makes me be a responsible drinker.

Thank you Lady Bug I love you for keeping me sober while enjoying me some Jameson with friends....

And for those without dogs who do not get my Jive Talk-in - they allow dogs on their patio!

I have many fond memories of this Starbucks location. When I lived in the area I would stop in here for coffee with my know Ex Mister to write down a shopping list and contemplate recipes for the next few days before shopping at HEB, or to decide on what DVD we wanted to rent at Hollywood, or while waiting for food at Austin Pizza....

This past Sunday I had a lovely visit with my Mom on the patio with my pup in tow. I was hungry after a hike and was happy to see a "High Protein'" healthy snack option to accompany my iced latte. My iced latte with an extra shot of espresso was the perfect ratio of espresso to whole milk ratio as usual and the "High Protein" pack was the perfect amount of healthy foods: a very small whole wheat bagel, a squeeze packet of peanut butter, a boiled egg (with small salt and pepper packets), 2 slices of cheese, 2 slices of apple and some grapes.

I prefer to not support chains but I have too many happy memories here to judge them by their business structure...

I often find myself craving their Sliced Beef Sandwich - the beef is juicy, the BBQ sauce is perfect in every way and the bun is as perfect as carbs get.

For the non BBQ Rib eaters they serve Tortilla Soup, Nachos, Burgers and yes Veggie Burgers and Baked Potatoes for the Vegetarians.

I woke up this morning to Bobby Flay (on the Food Network) grilling some fantastic looking Burgers and by 8:30 AM I had a huge craving for a juicy Burger.

So, after a 3 hour walk at Lady Bird Lake I walked over to Sandy's to indulge in some greasy goodness. I walked up to the outdoor counter and ordered a double Cheese Burger and a Diet Coke then went and sat at a picnic table to wait for my Burger.  In less than 10 minutes I was biting into my burger that was the perfect meat to bun ratio with lots of lettuce and tomato just the way I like it.

Cute Guy sitting across from me "Can I give your Pup a french fry?"
Me " Yeah, but only if she sits for it"
Cute Guy "She sure is pretty what kind of dog is she?"
Me "Pitt, Lab, Pointer, Great Dane Mix.  Not sure.  Can I have a french fry?"
Cute Guy "You can have the rest I am full"
Me "Thanks, oh yum they are so salty"
Cute Guy "That's why I could not finish them"
Me "I like salty"
Cute Guy "I am headed over to Barton Springs for a swim do you want to join me?"
Me "Yeah, but it has to be on the dog friendly side"
Cute Guy "I already figured out you would not ditch your pup for me (Grin)".........

After a day at the lake I stopped in here with some friends for a late lunch to fill our hungry bellies.

In typical BBQ joint fashion you walk up to the "serving pit" select your meat  and while it is being sliced and weighed you order your sides. Condiments are serve yourself in a large island in the middle of the dinning area.

We ordered 1 LB of Baby Back Ribs and 1/2 LB  Brisket  and Potato Salad. It appears the Pinto Beans are complimentary on the condiment table!

The Ribs were juicy fall off the rib tender and the Brisket was juicy and flavorful without being too fatty.  The meat was nicely seasoned and probably does not NEED sauce; but, I grew up with sauce on my BBQ and I want it on BBQ regardless of how well seasoned the meat is without it...

I called ahead to make sure my Pup was allowed at their outdoor seating area and learned that the owner had installed outdoor seating for just that and he named the place after his dog!!!

I will definitely be back when in the area.

I spent a couple hours on the patio with 15 other Yelpers and had a great afternoon.

The waitress was great at making sure our ever growing and revolving group had what they wanted or needed.  And I even heard her ask if we needed to split the checks which is very rare and a plus.

I had a Bloody Mary that was so good I wanted another one; but, Rick G. was ignoring his second one so I finished it for him.  I am not a huge Bloody Mary fan but Quatros has made me a fan of theirs.

The chips and queso were ok. But then it had been sitting around for a while before I arrived; so, I probably should not judge.  The salsa however was very good and I look forward to exploring more of the Tex Mex menu that I can dip into it.

So, why am I giving this place a full five stars without actually having a meal here yet. Well let me tell you the Bloody Mary and salsa were a good 4 stars and they treated my dog like a customer which gets them the coveted 5 stars.  Not only did the waitress bring out a bowl of water for my Pup then another when other doggie friends arrived she made sure they stayed filled. Our waitress along with 2 others stopped by to hand out dog treats and meet the pups.  This is irrelevant to anyone without a dog; but, if you have one you know how important this is when wanting to socialize with your 2 legged friends.

I had the most fantastic afternoon on the back patio pool lounge area today with some fellow yelpers.  It was the perfect place for Michelle C.'s "Puppy Shower" since it is fenced in and the Puppers could roam around and do what dogs do.  While the humans enjoyed drink of choice and finger foods.

I love the ambiance of this place.  It has a modern design that has a swanky, hipster, casual feel all in one.

Today we got there shortly after opening time (3PM Friday -Sunday) (5PM the rest of the week) and the waitress let us know straight up that she was the only one on staff and the service might be slow.  There were 3 large groups on the patio and I did notice any slow service at all.

I had the Malbec red wine that was perfectly paired with the hard cheese that was on the cheese plate and the edamame. The cheese plate was huge and included bread, 3 wedges of cheese, grapes, diced Apple and olives.

I am always trying to find a place I can bring the butt sniffer that serves adult cocktails and serves figure friendly bar food.  This place gets a full 5 stars in all categories!

They call their food "Fancy Barbecue"  I think it would be better described as Upscale Home Cooking.

I love the interior which is definitely "fancy" for a BBQ joint - exposed brick walls, rustic wood floors, pine tables, chairs and bar stools and elegant  light fixtures.

Some of my favorite items here are actually appetizers.  The Spicy Deviled Eggs are divine.   And the Achiote Chickpeas are something I often find myself craving and trying to duplicate in my own kitchen with no luck.  They are seared with roasted tomatoes, sweet caramelized onions, unknown herbs and Goat Cheese served with warm pita bread.  If the Fried Green Tomatoes topped with Lump Crab Salad happens to be on the black board order it you will not be disappointed.

The only entree I have had is the Oak Smoked Brown Sugar and Coffee Rubbed Beef Brisket and it is perfect in every way - very juicy without being too fatty and no need for sauce!

If you like Tequila mixed with fresh fruit juice; I highly recommend the Campala (Tequila, fresh squeezed Grapefruit, Orange and Lime Juice).

If they did not already get a good 4+ stars I would bump it up to a full 5 stars for allowing my Pup on the patio and for bring her a bowl of water with ice before even taking my order!

This trailer is located across from Butler Park where I park for my weekend runs at Lady Bird Lake.  For months I walked by on the weekends and wondered why they were not open.  On a recent Friday I noticed they were open so I grabbed some money out of my car and ventured over. The Greek Salad was very fresh and tasty as was the HUGE deli pickle I got to go.

This little trailer serves up some tasty healthy options I just can not believe they are closed on the weekends when they would  get the most business from the runners and bikers at Lady Bird Lake a block away.  Their hours are M-F 10:30 AM - 3:30 PM.

They serve subs, soups, salads, baked potatoes and cookies and gelato for dessert.  I took a picture of the menu so you can check it out for yourself. Prices include tax....

This little Airstream Snow Cone stand is located in the P Terry parking lot, perfectly located across the street from Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail.   So perfectly located that I have a hard time resisting a stop here every time I take the pup to Auditorium Shores or go for a run around the lake.

They have so many flavors 78 total with all natural and sugar free options.

They offer 4 sizes.  I have only had the small which is only 1.00 and plenty of sugary goodness for me; so, I am not sure the prices on the other sizes.

So far the Blackberry is my favorite unless I am in the mood for Banana.

Not sure of their hours but I know they do not open before noon on weekends.

I stopped in here last Sunday at noon to meet a large group of fellow Yelpers and was impressed with how smoothly the service was with our group showing up at different times and the table growing from one to three long picnic benches and those of us in the sun requesting umbrellas...

Umbrellas and drinks were promptly provided and then the misters came on ahhh...

My salad with mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, cheddar, Parmesan and grilled shrimp was so fresh and tasty I did not need much dressing so it is also figure friendly.  And the Paloma (tequila, fresh squeezed grapefruit, pomegranate and lime juice) my new favorite summer drink was so refreshing.

I also tasted Michelle C.'s Bloody Mary and it was darn good but I was craving sweet so I went with the Paloma.

Mindy and Mia played under the table (better behaved than most 2 legged 2 year olds) and were provided as good as any 2 legged kids would be - the waiter brought out a free bowl of water and kept it filled...

I have been here several times for Happy Hour and on Sundays for  Brunch which is also all day Happy Hour.

I love this place for the fact that I can bring my butt sniffer and they treat her like a rock star - she gets a bowl of water and a treat before I even get to order. They get an extra star for doggie service.  The humans however often have to flag down a waitress for refills.

I do enjoy drinks on the patio here with friends when we are in no rush.

I would not recommend this place as a dinning destination. The food is ok if you need food and want to drink on a patio that allows your butt sniffer. Otherwise there are sooo many better places to eat.

That said my favorite things here are the Peppered Fries (so perfectly seasoned they need no dip) and a Strawberry Mango Pura Margarita (all fresh squeezed juice no mix) The fried Mushrooms are also very tasty.

I can't review the food as I have only had the coffee. My double espresso with extra whip cream is always yummy.  I think it is very cool that people hang out here reading a book or playing board games on a Sat night - proof that being a nerd is cool.  They also serve beer in case you want to get crazy over a game of scrabble...

Yes it is a chain but it is a Texas chain and it is a good one thanks to Rick for keeping it good.

I used to frequent the Dallas location when I lived there and loved the old house that it is located in with nice cozy nooks to flirt with your date.

Today, I had the pleasure of experiencing The Ginger Man in Austin for the first time. I give them 5 stars for allowing my butt sniffer and the great hospitality. Good looking fun friendly crowd I/ we (the butt sniffer) will be back soon..

I must add that this is a family friendly pub - I think it is very cool that young or old  families can bring their kids or dog kids to a pub,.  I am sure a lot of others appreciate being able to socialize with the 'kids" be them 2 or 4 legged,,

I don't even drink beer (unless I am somewhere where it seems inappropriate to drink anything else) but I enjoy this place because my friends love beer and I can bring my dog; and, I always have a great time.

My favorite time to be here is on a rainy night on the backyard covered patio.  I order a Guinness and Fish & Chips and daydream that I am in Ireland - nice 2 hour vacation with only a 10 minute drive.

The people that hang out here are very friendly.  We usually find ourselves chatting with a couple or group at the table/bench next to us; so, we usually move on over and free up a bench and make some new friends. Inside you will find hard wood floors and dark cozy booths and a great Jukebox.

I highly recommend this place for a Sun afternoon with friends or a book on the patio now that the weather is awesome....

I spent a great afternoon on the patio this past Sunday with a fun group of Yelpers.

I was first impressed that the waitress brought out a bowl of water for my dog before taking my order! She frequently checked to see if anyone needed another drink or at least it seemed frequent to me since I drink VERY slow.  I have never been a waitress; so, I am amazed at how one can split a bill between 15 people who almost all payed with credit cards.

It was not at all crowded on a Sunday afternoon so our large group had no problem pulling tables together and the fan-misters offered much relief from the heat.   I had a Bloody Mary that I could only drink half of.  It tasted too strong - not too much alcohol or spice strong but too much mix strong.  But Rick G. ordered two so maybe I just don't like Bloody Mary's anymore.  Ironically,  I usually do not like Margaritas on the rocks but love their Margarita.

I will definitely put this place on the list of places I can drink with my butt sniffer.

I just discovered this taco trailer a couple months ago.  And it is my new favorite place to get a breakfast taco before a run at Lady Bird Lake.  My first time here I ordered the egg, cheese and potato on corn tortilla and was surprised I got 2 tacos.  It was explained to me that you get either 1 flour taco or 2 corn. OK, I thought I got more than I payed for.

La Guera is cheaper than Torchy's and Taco Deli just as good and about 5 minutes from Auditorium Shores.  I can grab 2 breakfast tacos for 3.00 with a 100% tip and be on a bench at Auditorium Shores off leash area eating my tacos while my Pup runs around sniffing butts and completely ignoring the deliciousness I am indulging in.

FYI: I usually prefer red sauce but the green sauce here is very tasty - try it even if you think you do not like it.

I love being on the water and I LOVE my Pup and my Pup loves the water so we Love this place.  Dogs are welcome on the tubes and shuttle but you need to bring your own doggy life jackets.  Even though my Pup loves to swim like any over protective  Mother I do not allow her on the river without a life jacket.

River Sports Tubes is ideally located in the middle of the Horseshoe Loop offering short, medium, or long floats and they pick you up at the end of your float with their shuttle service.

Tube rental with a life jacket is only 15.00  with free parking; a tube for the Pup is 25.00 since they have claws that can puncture tubes..  You can also rent a tube with an ice chest for around 25.00 so you can bring your iced down beer.  I do not drink beer but it sounds cool..

Poor Eeyore thought all his friends had forgotten his Birthday when in reality they were planning a surprise party for him.  Now we can all celebrate his birthday every year the last Saturday in April at Pease Park.  For the whole story click herehttp://en.wikipedia.or...

Well this year was no different from the past 8 years I have been going - lots of awesome costumes, lots of painted bare boobies, lots of beer drinking and pot smoking, bare butts, naked children, cats on leashes...  It seems like the drum circle gets bigger every year. By 4PM the park was packed and the drum circle was the place to be.

Despite all the bare body parts and pot smoking, this is very family friendly event.  The kiddos can have there picture taken on the donkey (Eeyore), costume contest, May Pole, body paint...

Also, very pet friendly lots of dogs, cats, horses, pet birds.

If you have never been you are truly missing out on an Austin tradition that helps keep Austin Weird.

What can I not like about cheap Banh Mi served out of a trailer under a huge Live Oak Tree that allows my butt sniffer?

I would have never tried a Vietnamese Tofu sandwich on my own.  But, my friend made me do it. And it was so good I don't know who/what I wanted to make out with more - her or my sandwich... The sandwich includes lemongrass and avocado two of my favorite ingredients.

Today I stopped in for a summer roll and a Vietnamese iced coffee to refuel after a hike.  The strong coffee with sweetened condensed milk was excellent and the summer roll was pretty darn good - just not as make-out worthy as the Vietnamese Tofu Sandwich or my Friend for recommending this place.

Oh, and the sisters that run this place are adorable.

Austin Java has become one of our favorite places to meet fellow Yelpers on the weekend.

I love it because I can socialize with humans without feeling guilty for leaving Mia at home.  Mia loves it because Rick G. slips her bacon under the table when I am not looking and today she got to visit with her friend Princess Sophie and made a few new friends.

The wood plank patio up front is great for dog lovers - there is usually at least 1 dog per table and today it sounded like a zoo.  If you think that is a bad thing then there is an in-closed open air patio back by the bathrooms that is just for you.

Lately, I have just been stopping in for a snack and coffee - the black beans are very tasty and the House Blend Coffee is one of my favorites in town.  Today, I snagged a few Breakfast Fries off Rick G.'s plate (they did not taste very good) - no wonder he left them on his plate for me to nibble on.  But, the Migas must be good because that is what he always orders and cleans his plate same with Javier.

I do not recall a bad meal here in the past couple years I have been dining here.  The "Build Your Own" Breakfast Taco is a great cheap choice - 2 tortillas of choice and fillings of choice for 1.99.  The Veggie Plate is listed under Appetizers but I think it needs to be moved to an Entree section of the menu - the main course is Veggies with Hummus and Black Bean Dip with sides of Vegetable of the Day, Mashed Potatoes and a cup of soup.  The Tuna Nicoise Salad is also very good and I rarely ever order or recommend restaurant salads.

We will definitely be back - most likely next weekend for our sunshine on a patio with our crush fix...

Eat here if you are on the lake and don't want to wait for a seat at Hula Hut.

Everything fried is good - the okra and french fries yum-mo!

This is mostly a burger joint with fried fish and shrimp (very good) and fried stuff and yes they know how to fry without leaving you with an overly lubed up mouth and gut!

They also offer a veggie burger that is veggilicious..

Their pizza must be very good as I see lots of people getting a whole pie to go.

And I must add they are VERY dog friendly I have been here when there were more dogs than humans that's what happens when a couple bring their 3/4 dogs.  If you don't like dogs sniffing your butt while you eat go somewhere else.  As long as my dogs can dine with me I don't care who sniffs my butt....

I stopped in here for the first time today with Peter P. and our pups and Wow what an awesome dog boutique this is. I have never seen such a large selection of dog clothing and funky, cute and pretty dog collars and leashes!

We were greeted as soon as we walked in even though they were helping another customer - always a good sign. Peter's first comment was "it sure is big" and I agree most dog boutiques are small in comparison to this place. One wall is covered in dog clothes and another rack has sweaters and jackets to keep your furry friend warm. I was looking for a sweater or vest for Mia since she has to stay outside on Thanksgiving Day at my parents and last year it was cold. Mia has a big chest (30 inches) and there was only one vest that fit her unfortunately it reminded me of a Batman cape - not the style I was looking for. But, the woman helping me said that she would order some of the larger sizes and that they should be in the Monday before Thanksgiving. Since, this is the only pet store I have found that sells large breed clothing I will definitely be back.

What impressed me most about this place are the prices. They are located in the high rent 2nd St. district and yet their prices are the same as chain pet stores! Peter and I were just talking about how chain Pet stores are more expensive than HEB - when it should be less since it seems like Pet Store chains are buying more dog food in bulk at lower prices???

And speaking of dog food they sell only 2 brands of dog food Natural Balance and another brand I can not remember starts with California... On the way out we grabbed some of the sample gift bags that included Natural Balance Ultra Premium Formula and Potato and Duck Formula. In the Duck Formula potatoes is the first ingredient and Duck is the 3rd with Salmon oil and Flax seed as the 5th and 6th ingredient. The Ultra Premium lists chicken, brown rice, oatmeal, potatoes and carrots as the main ingredients none of that "corn and the ambiguous bone and meat meal" that most dog food starts out with.

I am kinda crazy Dog Mommy excited over this new dog food discovery.  I know a healthy diet extends a dogs life span and I am more than willing to spend 20.00 extra a month to have more time with my beloved and faithful best friend.

This little locally owned pet shop/ Dog Bakery is Woof Woof! As good as it gets!

We stopped in for the first time today and were immediately greeted by the owner, Kim, who gushed over how pretty Mia is then proceeded to give her a cookie tasting from the bulk bends.

The bakery case has all kinds of fancy treats that look just like human decorated cookies but the icing is carob.  In addition to the fancy treats the case also has treats like pizza, beef ribs, and bagels.  The bakery case items range from .20 - 2.00 and the bulk bin cookies are 7.99/LB. I got Mia 2 PeaMutt Butter, 2 Bark B Que, and 2 Beef cookies from the bulk bin for only .95 with tax!

Groovy Dog Bakery also sells a great selection of dog apparel, fancy leashes (what little yappy dog could not get any cuter with a feather boa collar ;-), lavender dog shampoo and even a Dogopoly board game for the parents.

Speaking of parents this is the perfect place to buy Puppy Shower gifts; and, shame on you if you do not already throw Puppy Showers for your friends when they get a new addition to the family.  They even have a Pawty Room to celebrate your Pups birthday party in - check out their website for details.

If Mia could drive or walk here on her own I am sure she would stop by every day.

Groovy Dog is located in the Westgate shopping center to the left behind Barnes and Noble.  Check it out I guarantee your dog will thank you.

I can't believe this place is so close and I had never taken my Pup here before today.

Mia had fun jumping in the water to fetch sticks thrown in by Rick G. who then had to look for more sticks because Mia does not bring back the sticks.

There is a short portion of the Lady Bird hike and bike Trail that runs through the off-leash area which could be potentially dangerous.  Mia darted in front of a cyclist who stopped so fast I thought he was going to flip.

What impressed me the most was the well behaved dogs.  The dogs were all running around sniffing butts and chasing balls; but, none of the rough housing that goes on at Bull Creek.  I know certain dog breeds like to jump up on each and growl and bite I just don't want my Pup playing like that in public around children and people who do not know dog play and think they are fighting.   So, they get an extra star for that.

I ran back and forth on the trail about 5 times until I got bored and had to put Mia back on her leash to explore more of the trail.  So, I wish it was longer for my enjoyment.

At the East end there are water coolers with cones to drink out of and a dog bowl and port-a-potties. Yeah for toilets and cold water!

With gas prices so high I will definitely be going here more often instead of driving all the way to Bull Creek.

I have been waiting all summer for the temperatures to cool down so I could take the Pooch Paddle Class (a 2 hour class that teaches you how to safely paddle with your dog) that they offer once a month at 1PM. Today was the PERFECT day for the class except I got the date wrong.

My Boss and I arrived at 1 PM with our Pups for the class only to find the class was not until tomorrow.  We decided to brave the waters with our Pups on our own. The staff was very helpful in helping us and our dogs get into our kayaks and we were off....  Until Gracie decided to jump ship and Mia decided to join her...  We rowed back to shore with our pups in tow and easily got them back on board.   My Boss' Pup Gracie jumped out several more times and she was able to pull her 70LBS Pup back in without tipping over.

I had so much fun and can't wait to get out on the water again soon - maybe tomorrow.

Don't be scared about the waver you have to sign that holds them not responsible for "death, emotional injury, brain damage or paralysis".... If I can kayak for the first time with my Pup moving around, shaking off water and another dog trying to climb aboard - anyone can do it!

If you plan to kayak with your dog bring a rubber backed mat for them to sit on.  And bring cash - they only take cash.

This is my Pup's favorite place to be on a Sat or Sun morning - I second her opinion. The park near the restrooms is designated  "off-leash"  and the trails are "on-leash" However you will encounter far more dogs off-leash on the trails than at the park.. We don't go here for the park but for the hiking trails. So that is what my review is based on.

The most easily found trail head is on the other side of 360 from the actual Park. We start there hike to the park for a potty break for me then turn around and head back on a different trail. This is an easy 1-3 hour hike depending on your speed and it is pretty hard to get lost or turned around.

When I go here I am constantly amazed that I am hiking along and under a busy Road yet hear no traffic sounds accept when passing under 360.

FYI: You will cross several creeks so be prepared to get your feet wet and bring a towel if you bring the dog.

FYII: I lead hikes on weekend mornings - no fee just show up message me if you are interested in a Yelp hike.  I will also be adding some pics from my most recent visit this weekend!

Get here and enjoy the outdoors!

Update: we discovered the trails that go up into the hills about a month ago and have been exploring them more every weekend.  They are VERY steep up and down and a GREAT workout. The trail up into the hills is just past the water crossing from the Spicewood Springs Rd trail head.  If you are scared to explore alone PM me I will happily lead a hike.

I stopped by JFP after being referred by a friend who raved about her dog's new nose harness that prevented him from pulling on his leash.

Since, I started taking my Pup for long hikes off-leash she is no longer happy with a week day walk on a leash. She wants to go full speed with me on the other end of the leash....  I might weigh twice as much as my pup but that does not help much when she bolts after a squirrel at 40 miles per hour (yes my dog has been clocked at 42 miles per hour with a radar gun).

My main request in choosing a harness that would prevent my Pup from pulling was that it did not look like a muzzle.  My Pup is a Pitt Mix and I did not want the nose harness to give the impression of a muzzle to prevent her from biting.

I went with the Easy Walker Harness that has a leash clasp on her chest, which makes her pull around in a circle if she pulls. Which reminded me of when I trained horses - you pull them into a circle so they can't bolt........

Awesome Harness - I took Mia for a long walk this evening and she did not pull at all!

Wow this hiking trail is awesome - right in the middle of 78704 and literally in the woods.  I cant believe I had never heard of this place before today and obviously not a lot of other people know about it since I am the first to review.

So, this morning I was talking to a woman at Auditorium shores and she told me about this place just a couple blocks away.  If you park at Auditorium shores and walk through Butler Park to the Dawson/Barton Springs intersection cross BS and it is just a couple blocks up Dawson on the right behind the Elk Lodge.

I had already ran at Lady Bird Lake and had to be somewhere at noon so I did not get to fully explore. What I did experience was a spooky sense of being alone in the woods and not knowing what Man or Beast might appear around the next turn while taking in the surrounding beauty.  The trail is heavily wooded so even in the heat it seemed cooler. And what I liked the most was the rustic stone stairway built into the trail (check out the picture I took).

I only hiked in about 1/2 a mile and could not find any info when I googled the park so I am not sure how long the trail is; but, I plan on going back next weekend so I will update the actual miles of the trail then.

The booth that sales Bison Jerky is my new favorite reason to visit here at least twice a month.

Last month Rick G. bought me a super cool humongous reusable shopping bag from the information booth.  I am beyond proud of this bag - every time I go grocery shopping people ask where I got it!

And, in case you did not know - they won #4 in The Top 10 Farmers Markets in Eating Well magazine.  How lucky are we?

This is by far my favorite hiking trail - not too many people know about it so it is never crowded even on a weekend. The Hill Trail is more challenging and provides greater views than the Creek Trail - you can enter Bull Creek Nature Preserve  from the Hill Trail. However, keep in mind dogs are not allowed in the Preserve.  Dogs are allowed off  leash on trails.  There is also a creek for swimming on the Creek Trail.

I spent a wonderful morning here today wandering around taking in all the beauty around me and snapping pictures.  And trying to keep my pup who loves to swim out of the ponds.

My favorite area is the Oriental Gardens where the ponds filled with lilies and huge goldfish are. The metal butterfly chairs in the butterfly area are really cool - I would love to have a couple of those in my backyard. The dinosaur covered with a living garden is pretty cool - I posted a picture of it along with some others.

And like Alison P.  I am embarrassed to admit this was my first visit and I have lived here for 8 years - shameful...

Be sure and bring your camera.

And dogs are allowed!!!

This place is a dieter's nightmare. They serve everything fried and burgers with fries.

However they are vegetarian friendly.  You can get a Veggie Burger fried mushrooms, fried green tomatoes, french fries, and hush puppies.  However however they are probably fried in the same grease as the fish - FYI for vegans...... If you are a vegetarian for health reasons do not go here for your veggie food.

If you love fried food get yourself here pronto.  I often find myself craving their hush puppies. It was here that I figured out why hush puppies are called "hush" puppies. After much oohing and ah hing and moaning over my hush puppies my sister told me to hush...

I would have to say this place would be my perfect first date place.  I would order the shrimp basket that comes with hush puppies. And since I can bring my Pup; if my date turned out to be a bore I would still have great company....

My pup Mia and I love this place.  Mia gets to run as fast as she can without me holding her back. I like to run too, but she is faster and I do not like to roll in the dirt.  Oh my so many Butts to sniff!! The humans are very friendly - lots of students studying while their pooches play....  Everyone seems very responsible about picking up the poop.  It is fully fenced in so those new to off-leash need not worry..

I must add that off leash Pitts scare me even though I own 2 Pitt mix Mutts. No worry's here the 2 Pitts here on our most recent visit were the most submissive dogs of the group. I owe that to the fact that the people who come here are responsible dog owners.

This beautiful and apparently unknown of Park is just off of 2244 and right on Lake Austin. It is a great place for a picnic on the lake, there are a few benches to sit and enjoy the view, a pier for fishing, further inland their are some historic buildings, a gazebo and picnic tables and 1 grill.

The main reason I come here is for the hiking trails.  I rarely pass another person and I love the peaceful tranquility.  The trails are unimproved with no signs or maps so you just have to set out for an adventure and find them - one follows the lake going east and the other one heads north through a flat grassy field before it reaches a cedar covered trail with abundant foliage and waterfalls.

The only reason I do not visit more often is their bizarre hours (I like to hike early in the morning) closed Mondays and open 1PM - 6PM the rest of the week.  So, don't get lost on the hiking trails late in the day because they close the gates at 6PM and you will have to walk home.

FYI dogs are allowed but you need to bring your own poopy bags and swimming is not allowed.

This park is just down the street from where I live; and, me and the pup hit the trails here at least once a week.

The park itself has tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, a softball field, play ground with picnic tables grills and a restroom, and a swimming pool. I have not used any of the facilities but they look clean. I have only used the park for the parking lot.  I park in the lot then cross the street for the hiking trails.  The trail head across the street is visible from the parking lot. The trail is nicely groomed and wide with a pebble stone surface and several work out stations along the trail. The trail is mostly covered by trees so even in the heat of summer it is not too hot in the morning or evening.

The wildflowers are in bloom right now so check it out

This park is located in Circle C Ranch just SW of Slaughter and Escarpement.   The park includes soccer fields, volleyball courts, playground, picnic tables, grilles, restrooms and disk golf along the hiking trails.

I have only used the hiking trail and restroom so that it is what the stars reflect.  The trails are really just 3 stars as far as scenery goes but since this trail is so close to my casa it gets an extra star for accessibility.  I can jog the trail in 1 hour so I am guessing it is 2.5 - 3 miles long.  The trail is wide and clean with a crushed granite surface.  There are 2 water crossings one with pavement another with rocks.  The trail circles around the soccer field so this time of year you will probably here the games on the weekends.  I hit these trails on weekday evenings around 6PM and pass lots of parents pushing baby strollers or walking their dogs; but, it is never overly crowded.

I highly recommend it to anyone in the area.
